Nutrition is the study of the influence of food intake on health and well being.The importance of nutrition in the primary prevention of disease (public health nutrition) is recognized by governments in both developing and developed countries.Public health nutrition involves studying the relationships between dietary intake anddisease using the tools of nutritional epidemiology and applying the knowledge gained to help prevent disease in the population (nutrition intervention).Dietetics is the application of nutritional knowledge particularly tailored to individual needs. The practice of dietetics is mainly based in hospitals, where it focuses on the use of diet in the treatment and management of disease. However, dietitians also play a role in nutrition education in the community.
